How do I use the GetLoyal staff scanner to award points?

Everything your staff needs to stamp, redeem, and verify loyalty passes on the floor.

What the scanner does

The GetLoyal staff scanner is a web-based tool — no separate app needed. Staff open it in their phone's browser and use the camera to scan the QR code displayed on a customer's wallet pass (Apple Wallet or Google Wallet).

Scanning can:

  • Add stamps or points to a customer's card
  • Mark a reward as redeemed (redemption — e.g. a free coffee)
  • Verify a membership or access pass
  • Check in an event ticket holder

Setting up scanner access

Step 1 — Add your branch

Go to Branches → Add Branch and enter the branch name and address. Each branch gets its own staff roster.

Step 2 — Invite staff

Inside the branch, click Add Staff Member and enter their name and mobile number or email. They'll receive a login link.

Step 3 — Staff open the scanner

Staff visit their login link on any smartphone or tablet. The scanner opens automatically. That's it — no downloads, no passwords to remember.


Performing a scan

  1. Tap the Scan button to activate the camera
  2. Ask the customer to open their loyalty card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet
  3. Point the camera at the QR code on the card
  4. The customer's name and current balance appear instantly
  5. Choose the action:

- Award [X] stamps/points — tap once per purchase unit, or enter a custom amount

- Redeem reward — tap when the customer is claiming their reward

  1. Confirm — the card updates on the customer's phone in real time

What the customer sees

When a scan succeeds, the customer's wallet card refreshes automatically:

  • Stamp cards show the new filled stamp
  • Points cards update the point balance
  • A lock-screen notification is sent (if the customer has notifications enabled)

Handling common situations

Customer left their phone at home

Ask them to check their email for the join confirmation, or look them up by name in the Customers tab on the dashboard — staff can manually award points from there.

QR code won't scan

The QR code may be too small on screen. Ask the customer to increase brightness, or zoom in on the QR code inside the wallet app.

Accidental stamp

Managers can reverse the last transaction from the customer's profile in the dashboard within 24 hours.


Best practices

  • Keep the scanner always open on a dedicated tablet near the till
  • Train new staff in under 5 minutes using the in-app tutorial
  • For high-volume hours, the scanner handles rapid sequential scans without lag
